In the context of the formation of the digital economy in the Russian Federation, the relevance of the formation of digital competencies among students studying in non-IT fields is beyond doubt. One of the areas of formation of digital competencies among students of the Southwest State University studying in the field of Technosphere Security is the implementation of digital business projects by students in the “Startup as a Diploma” format. Thus, the purpose of this article is to substantiate the relevance of graduates of the Technosphere Safety training area completing their final qualifying works in the form of digital business projects, which ensures the formation and development of competencies among young professionals that are in demand by modern employers, and to review the practice of implementing such projects at the Department of Occupational Safety and the Environment. Southwestern State University. In the period from 2020 to 2025, graduates of the Department of Occupational Safety and the Environment completed five business projects, four of which are digital. The article describes in detail the stages of implementation and the content of the business project implemented by students in the 2024–2025 academic year, “Information and analytical system for accounting and assessment of the ecological state of springs and small rivers.” The authors of the article show that the successful implementation of such business projects demonstrates not only the high level of professional training of graduates, but also their understanding of the broad context of professional activity, the ability to develop and implement their own projects, the ability to work in project teams, conduct effective business communication and, of course, their mastery of digital competencies.
