Presented is analysis of pioneer in social work M. Richmond on develop-ment of professional social-pedagogical education in the US. Studied is im-portance of conceptual ideas of Richmond at the stage of transformation of wel-fare work into professional activity. Discovered is essence of case method, nowa-days accepted worldwide, opening opportunity to form basis of new profession of “social worker”, based on accumulated experience. The research is made on material, taken from concrete practice, in which training of future social special-ists was fulfilled under conditions of practically oriented purposefulness, are be-ing conductive to development of professional thinking, forecasting in situation, as well as improvement in professional experience in solving of concrete situation of each independent client.
