The article analyzes the causes of the crisis of the Russian humanities, in particular linguistics and literary studies. It follows from the study that they are complex and objective in nature, determined in many ways by civilizational factors — the history of Russian humanities, ideology, and the system of training scientific personnel. The authors offer their view on the problem of the crisis of the humanities and humanitarian education, identify the weak links of Russian humanities at the stage of the information society. The work uses a bibliometric approach. The main conclusion is that modern Russian philology exists as a local, ‘classical’ science, and not as part of the Russian social or global scientific process proper.
