On the problem of evaluation of word-formation competence of higher school students

Presented is analysis of competences, that master students of technical universities must develop as a part of foreign language study in accordance with FGOS of higher education. Examined is word-formation competence in the system of language competences, necessary for successful mastering of foreign language, and also place and role of the former are identified taking into account psycholinguistic research in speech production. Described is classification of principal word-formation models with their brief description in English language. Linguistic competence components, that master students studying the program “Construction” must develop is analyzed. Also method of free association experiment based on giving associations to proposed topic is suggested.
