Emotional intelligence (EI) is an important component of successful human interaction with the outside world, both in personal life and in professional activities. The relevance of EI research in the educational context is due to the need for students to develop effective self-management skills, adapt to stressful situations, and successfully interact in a team. In the works of sociologists, insufficient attention is paid to methods and models aimed at developing students’ EI, and there is a lack of data reflecting the patterns and influence of EI on self-motivation, emotional stability, and the ability to self-manage. The empirical part of the work includes two stages: Stage 1 (sample size = 140) — identification of the structure of the EI; Stage 2 (sample size = 254) — analysis of its influence on the processes of group self-management in educational and scientific work. Standardized tests were used to evaluate various components of EI. The results showed that the level of students’ EI significantly depends on their course of study, with the greatest increase in the second year and a noticeable decrease in the fourth. The main components of EI, such as empathy and emotion management, require additional attention and the development of practical methods to improve them, especially in the final stages of learning. The findings of the study confirm that the development of students’ EI is necessary for their successful adaptation to the learning environment, increasing personal motivation and successfully completing scientific tasks.
