The article considers the project method as an effective tool for developing digital competencies of future engineers in the context of digital transformation of education. The ways of modernizing the system of higher technical education are substantiated in connection with the change in requirements for graduates caused by the development of the digital economy, artificial intelligence and high-tech industries. The analysis of key problems of training engineering personnel is carried out, including the discrepancy between the content of educational programs and modern technological trends, the lack of interdisciplinary and digital skills among graduates, as well as the formalization of the educational process. It is shown that the project method integrated into the digital educational environment contributes to the development of professional and personal competencies, the formation of skills in working with modern digital tools, as well as communication and social skills. Recommendations are given for organizing project activities in a technical university, including interaction with the employer, interdisciplinary integration and the use of modern digital platforms.
