The study reveals the relevance of an in-depth study of the problem of developing tolerance towards individuals with disabilities among students of a pedagogical university. The authors reveal the content of the concept of tolerance towards students with special needs. Emphasis is placed on the fact that the development of tolerance involves not only accepting students with disabilities, but also accepting one’s own self. For this purpose, the researchers developed and implemented a program that involves a harmonious combination of work on self-acceptance and the development of empathy for others of this category. The stages (introductory, main and final) and areas (training, information and analytical, organizational and methodological activities and psychological and pedagogical support) of the relevant work are described in detail. The article proposes a lesson structure and a description of each of its elements. Particular attention is paid to the joint activities of participants in the educational space. According to the authors of the study, the work should include teachers of the higher educational institution, students and the parent community. As a result, the authors concluded that it is necessary to continue the relevant work in the following areas: diagnostic (comprehensive analysis of the current situation), educational (raising awareness of participants), advisory (consultative support providing individual assistance to each student), and communicative (organization of a special discussion club).
