Examined are ways to improve quality of professional training of students at pedagogical university. Conditions of application of competence approach to improve effective organization of professional training of future teachers are highlighted. Special place is given to professional competence and it’s formation in students of pedagogical universities. Considered is competence assessment maps for their use with the purpose of improving quality of professional training of future teachers. Also levels of readiness of students to solve professional problems in educational institutions are consideredl.
