Researched is the theme of freedom of choice in education. Presented is vision of education as ambivalent process, involving variety of value orientations of participants. The authors conclude that, with respect to this context, freedom could be considered simultaneously as “negative” and as “positive”. “Positive” freedom in this situation is the ability to select by student or teacher various form and content of educational activities. “Negative” freedom lies in rejection of some parts of the content of education by absence of any proposals for replacement in the content by other one. Examined are certain contradictions that arise in research of educational breeding process as pure theoretical construct without taking into account specific socio-historical reality. The authors also highlight some factors, contributing to development of personal freedom, as well as obstacles, hindering this process.

Key words: education, freedom of choice, subject of education, method of discussion, philosophy of education, social philosophy, philosophical anthropology.
