In the educational process of a university with the introduction of digital technologies and a situation where a student is faced with the choice of a printed book and an electronic medium, the question arises: what do students choose and how do they combine various media during preparation for classes and research work? Literature on the topic of interaction between humans and the digital environment was used as a methodological basis. The purpose of the study is to identify the reading practice of students in the context of digitalization. The research tools are aimed at studying students’ opinions about the meaning of the concept of “reading,” as well as reading practices in the educational process. Analysis of students' ideas about reading printed books and using the Internet made it possible to identify the dominant trend in reading practice in the context of digitalization, avoiding a limited one-sided view. The novelty lies in the cooperation of three universities, differing in their status and location. The study revealed that university students use both books and the Internet to obtain information, with the latter being the predominant use. There are no significant differences in the responses of students from the three universities.
