Analyzed is the problem of quality of historical and pedagogical research that is mainly determined by its methodology. In this regard, historians of pedagogy appeal to hermeneutic approach, including its principles and methods of implementation. Dissertations, mentioned in this article, were carried out on hermeneutic approach and devoted to the problem of academic staff development both in Russia and abroad. The authors point out stages of hermeneutic approach development as method of cognition, direction of philosophy and humanitarian discipline, theirs ideas to be applied into historical and pedagogical research. The authors also describe the concept of hermeneutic approach and its application in historical and pedagogical research with studying facts and phenomena in chronological and territorial framework through interpretation of meaning and significance of historical and pedagogical resources and documents. It is considered that objective understanding and interpretation of true meaning of the text through its reflection is significant idea of hermeneutic approach. The set of principles, methods and techniques for implementing hermeneutic approach in historical and pedagogical research are also characterized by the authors. The materials of the article, reflecting essence of hermeneutic approach, principles and methods of its implementation could be used in historical and pedagogical research. Dissertations, observed in this article, could lead young researchers in attempt of integration hermeneutic approach ideas in historical and pedagogical research.
