Russian experience of higher engineering education in China

Presented is analytical description of activity of Harbin polytechnic institute (now Harbin University of Technology). Described is Russian experience in development of higher engineering education in China in the years from 1920 up to 1957. Established by Russian railway engineers at Chinese Eastern railway with support of emigrants of the period of Civil war in Russia, that high school occurred to be the most effective and viable among all Russian educational institutions in China. The article is based on materials from Russian speaking press of China, USA and Australia, and as well as on memories of eyewitnesses of described events. Sources allow to trace continuity of traditions of Russian high school by Harbin polytechnic institute, as well as to reveal specific features of it’s development at various stages and it’s role in formation of higher engineering education in China.
