Made is an attempt of analytical evaluation of theoretical heritage of well-known pedagogue of pre-revolutionary Russia P.E. Roschtschin. In particular, analyzed is classical theoretical work by P.E. Roschtschin “Essay of principal practical provisions of pedagogy, didactics and methodology, applicable to academic subjects in primary education”. The named work of P.E. Roschtschin was being widely used in the system of pre-revolutionary Russian education by studying the course of pedagogic and didactic at women gymnasiums, teachers seminaries and institutes beginning from the middle of 19th century up to the year of 1917. As the result of the research, determined is fundamentality of P.E. Roschtschin’s work, that is substantiated by references to it in great number of works of both Russian and foreign scientists, as well as of applicants for scientific degree in specialty of “General pedagogic, history of pedagogy and education”.
