The paper conducted a study aimed at studying the socio-psychological characteristics of first-year students on the factors of involvement in dependent behavior on the example of the Kurgan State University in order to improve the preventive direction of educational activities of the University. The results of the study allowed the authors to identify a low probability of involvement in dependent behavior, most students have formed protection factors for involvement in dependent behavior on the part of the reference group and society as a whole. Based on this study, it is proposed to conduct systematic monitoring of the involvement of students in dependent behavior, recommendations have been developed to expand the preventive activities of the university
