This article examines the institutional dynamics of policing in the context of social change. The author examines the relationship between the police profession and basic social institutions, such as politics, economics and family, as well as their influence on the performance of professional duties and meeting the needs of the individual. Research methodology: structural functionalism, institutional analysis. Particular attention is paid to the conflict of interest between the profession and family life of police officers, which can lead to serious consequences for both individuals and the state and society as a whole. The basic aspect of the study of transformation processes and their significance, which is relied upon in the article, is an in-depth understanding of the two main vectors of social regulation - orientation towards the stability of society and orientation towards its development. In the process of research, the police service is understood not only as a profession, but also as a factor that determines the everyday life of a modern Russian police officer, his quality of life. The article shows that the set of basic social demands changes over time: what was previously considered as success is now taken for granted. In this sense, satisfaction with professional activity directly depends on the extent to which involvement in the profession meets the parameters of modernity. The study is aimed at an in-depth social analysis of the institutional determinants of the quality of life and service of a modern Russian police officer.
