This article analyzes the reading activity of contemporary Russian youth in the context of the digital transformation of society. Introduction to literature is viewed as an important channel for the socialization of the younger generation. The empirical basis for this study is the results of a pilot sociological study of reading preferences conducted in the spring of 2025 in the Moscow region using anonymous questionnaires. The data obtained indicate that most respondents are interested in reading, but their level of reading activity is low. Moreover, the majority of respondents prefer the former over the latter. The study also identified correlations between the socio-demographic characteristics of young people, reading frequency, and reading preferences.

Keywords: reading frequency, literary genres, reading activity, fiction, book, reading preferences
