The article explores the concept of ‘evidence-based policymaking,’ which advocates for the use of scientific evidence to support policy decisions, in contrast to ‘non-evidence-based policy.’ This approach has gained considerable relevance in conditions of social uncertainty, highlighting the need for informed decision-making. Evidence-based policymaking aims to enhance the quality of public administration, reduce subjectivity, and develop effective policies, which subsequently improve public program outcomes. Additionally, it plays a crucial role during crises by facilitating evidence-driven decision-making and fostering public trust in governmental institutions.
However, the implementation of evidence-based policymaking encounters several constraints, such as the availability of reliable data, institutional challenges, and the politicization of scientific research. The article asserts that adopting evidence-based policies is essential for enhancing governance in today’s ‘risk society.’ To achieve this objective, it is necessary to address existing barriers and balance the interests of diverse stakeholders. This approach is vital for establishing a sustainable and transparent decision-making framework that supports universal development.
