Discussed is genesis of the complex phenomenon of “student’s personality activity in learning” with formation of the terminological apparatus of higher school didactics. The student’s personal activity in learning is necessary condition for development of his personality and a fundamental principle of pedagogical activity. To reform the modern practice of the educational process, the idea of activity needs theoretical and technological researches, while the scientific fund could be significantly enriched with theoretical experience of the past.
