Presented is analysis of evaluating effectiveness of performance of university lecturers on the base of applied rating system. Positive and negative aspects of it’s application at various institutions of higher education are revealed. Conclusions are made about appropriateness of using of annual rating as a tool, enabling to link results of evaluation of quality of teachers’  work to the system of payment for their labor in the process of implementing effective contract with pedagogue, as well as of the need to further improvement of rating system for this purpose. One of directions of further development proposed is variant of organizing of research on analysis and development of criteria of evaluation of lecturer at high school within framework of single methodology of assessment, based on possibility of specifying according to performance indicators of concrete higher educational institution.
