       Discussed is the problem of actualization of social direction of university center of personal development. Evaluated are such aspects, as changing of statute of breeding work in Russian high schools, and also basic functions of breeding role of the center, in particular connected with social aspect of breeding students, connected with volunteer activity. Briefly described is historical specificity of social work in Russia, and also raising meaning of volunteer activity of students at present stage. Attempt is made to understand the origins of psychology of volunteerism, to evaluate it as a means of linking university and the city, to consider the trend of strengthening social role of universities all across the world. Presented are some examples of judicial, psychological and linguistic volunteer activity of the center, as well as analyzed is the role of pedagogical practice as preparatory stage for students’ participation in social work. Given are possible variants of social actions during the named practice.
