Described is practical experience of Barents Faculty, autonomous subdivision of Murmansk State Humanitarian University, developed on principles of paying it’s way. Barents Faculty implemented variety of educational programs, incl. training of specialists in economics, politics, history of the Nordic countries, realized international scientific projects, worked student’s club, and implemented active publishing activity. Thanks to that activity, faculty provided Murmansk State Humanitarian University with serious receipt of extra-budgetary resources for necessities of development both of it’s own educational and scientific and research process and for intensification of scientific and educational connections in the Nordic countries’ region. The authors analyze experience of concrete higher institution, on the basis of which the university was successful in forming circle of researchers, nowadays obtaining wide international recognition.
