Meaning structure of notions “patriotism” and “patriotic upbringing” in various sources is analyzed in the article. Significant components of these notions, i.e. emotionally evaluative, behavioral, intellectual, are shown. Analytical review of Russian traditions of patriotic upbringing is presented, as well as perspective of modeling the system of patriotic upbringing of the youth in a region indicated.
