The method of projects in design

Considered is the objective necessity of transition from traditional translation of ready knowledge to orientation of students on self-development and professional growth, in connection with changes in requirements of modern world to university graduates. One of the leading mechanisms taken as a basis in modern Russian and world design education as project activity is investigated. The essence of its organization on the basis of the project method is revealed. History of emergence of this method on the basis of concepts of pragmatic pedagogy by J. Dewey is shown, as well as conditional division of the chronology of development of the method according to views of German teacher M. Knoll is given. Systematic interaction between different disciplines in learning process, connection of theoretical courses with practice are considered. Development of design tasks in the process of training of design students is described on example of description of end-to-end design programs in the discipline “Project activity” in the direction 54.03.01 “Design”, profile “Design of environment” taught at Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University”. There are given a number of competencies, implementation of which involves training of students to solve professional problems in accordance with profile direction and future professional activities. The special role of teacher in choice of subjects of tasks is noted. Four stages of development of design knowledge, skills and design skills of students are given. The article describes gradual development of scientific and creative independence of the student designer with gradual increase in professional competencies to perform final qualifying work.
