Researched is problem of gender as bipolar phenomenon. Disclosed is essence of gender formation. Gender identity is the most important basic design, that combines masculine and feminine contrasts. The scale of gender identity of individual is built on the basis of gender stereotypes and gender roles. The nature of gender is conditioned by factors of socialization and cultural expectations of certain type of personality of a particular society. The gender identity of femininity and masculinity is rooted in social, rather than biological field. Gender changes directly depend on changes in social situation. Conclusion is made, that masculinity and femininity are not innate, but based on social and cultural conditions.
