Analyzed are historical, mythological, art-historical, philosophical and cultural approaches to retrospective analysis of song folklore. The opinion is expressed about historical and cultural orientation of the process of formation of content of traditional song culture. The authors talk about relevance of understanding of historical and cultural context of the work on the basis of integration of philosophical, cultural, art, anthropological, semiotic, sociological approaches. Historical and cultural analysis of musical folklore gives idea of integrity of it’s formation and in complexity with ethno-musical knowledge, allowing to reveal humanitarian and humanistic content of folk songs. Proposed by the author methodology of understanding the meaning of musical folklore stresses importance of it’s humanitarian and humanistic potential in professional and personal self-realization.

Key words: historical and cultural context, formation of holistic view, modern socio-cultural space, regional specificity, folk-singing practice.
