Discussed is the impact of special sections of mathematics on linguistic theory and practice. The result of penetration of mathematical methods in linguistics has been the emergence of mathematical, engineering, and other branches of linguistics. Described are conditions of the choice of linguistic models, as well as types of linguistic and mathematical models, i.e. ideal and reproducing. Given are methodological functions of engineering linguistics. Reviewed are special sections of mathematics, used in linguistic theory and practice. Also enumerated are five paradoxes of rejection of the language of frontal machine formalization.
