Discussed are issues, connected with defense of students’ rights in Russia in historical perspective. For better understanding of the nature of student’s rights it provides the data about development of students’ rights in Russia from the 18th century up to nowadays. Student self-government has evolved, changed it’s priorities, and become integral part of university social life and social phenomenon. The article considers students’ rights in modern Russia, fixed in Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation”. It gives recommendations for vice-rectors for breeding activity, as to implementation and defense of students’ rights.
