The author analyzes the role of post-graduate study in institutions of higher education based on past years’ experience. Shown are peculiarities in organization and functioning of that institution in the Soviet period. Defined are possible after-effects of reducing quantity of post-graduate students’ tendency in modern Russian HPE.
