The transformation of all spheres of public life changes the political sphere; social processes in their diversity are the reason for the development and transformation of the political culture of young people. Theoretical research on this topic allows us to talk about the peculiarities of the influence of mass media on the political culture of young people in the modern information society of Russia. The purpose of the study is to identify the dual impact of onlineization and the digital media environment on the transformation of the political culture of young people in modern Russian society. On the one hand, young people become more involved in political processes due to increased awareness, but on the other hand, digital media addiction leads to fragmentation of political consciousness and formalism in political participation. The danger in the transformation of the political identity of young people lies in the use of misinformation from some media sources and the targeting of online information. At the same time, the variability of online content works as a positive feature of digital media in the development of pre-understandings (according to Gadamar) among young people. The information field of modern Russia should lead to the stabilization of the political system and coherence in society. The work analyzes the orientation of the state youth policy towards a positive transformation of political culture with a focus on citizenship and patriotism of members of the social youth group.
