The work is based on the results of a comprehensive sociological study of the opinions of Russian university students on various aspects of their lives, conducted by the researchers of Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2024. One of the objectives of the study was to identify ideas about traditional values and civic position among modern youth.

The problem of studying the younger generation’s perceptions of traditional values and identifying their civic position in current sociopolitical situation is particularly important. Using the data obtained by a survey, the article analyzes which values prevail in the minds of contemporary Russian students, what associations they have with the concept of ‘Russia,’ and how various personal values are interrelated with their commitment to particular values. Using a correlation analysis of responses, the stability of students' patriotic and civic positions is analyzed.

As practical recommendations for improving youth and educational policies at universities a number of potential measures are proposed. These measures will more effectively foster a sense of patriotism and promote the development of civic consciousness among students.

The work is addressed to a wide audience, to anyone interested in the problems of higher education, the response of the education system to modern system challenges, and interaction with other social institutions.

Keywords: traditional values, students, higher education, family, homeland, patriotism, civic position
