At the moment, one of the urgent tasks set for Russian universities is to increase their competitiveness in relation to leading foreign universities. To analyze the prospects for the development of aerospace education, an assessment of existing performance indicators of Russian and foreign university rankings is carried out. The factors influencing the position of universities in the rankings and the main differences between Russian and foreign assessment systems are given. The analysis of modern world leaders among universities is carried out, the dominance of universities providing education in English is shown. The main requirements for Russian higher education institutions from applicants, students, graduates and their employers are analyzed. A criterion is formulated that can be crucial for assessing the quality of education provided by aerospace universities, both in Russia and around the world, namely, the intensity and quality of their interaction within the framework of educational activities with industry representatives in the relevant industry. A criterion is being formed that may be fundamental for the popularization of Russian education among international students. General recommendations are given on the successful implementation of existing performance indicators of leading Russian and foreign university rankings.
