The issues of using language to form a worldview and program the behavior of individuals have always been and will be relevant. However, with the development of information and communication technologies, the scale, form and speed of using speech manipulation techniques are changing. The author of the article postulates that the use of means of verbal influence allows not only to structure an erroneous idea of the world that does not correspond to reality, but also to initiate the necessary manipulators of the trajectory of individual behavior. Among the considered methods of speech hidden control, special attention is paid to the classification proposed by R.M. Blakar, since it reflects the main ways of implementing verbal manipulation, most often used in the system of mass communications. In the course of the study, the author points out the most effective methods of speech influence, reveals the mechanism for their implementation and gives examples of use. The article notes that systematized knowledge on the issues of manipulation of consciousness through verbal influence serves its operational recognition. In turn, a kind of protection against speech manipulation is social experience, knowledge and the ability for creative thinking, which make it possible not only to analyze information, but also to look for non-standard ways of interpreting it and using it in practice.
