The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the organization of state aid to students in Russia. The article presents an analysis of the activities of the Commission for Improving the life of Students in Russian universities (KUBUCH), which can be considered as an attempt of the first systematic approach to the organization of fi nancial assistance to students. The article also examines the prerequisites for the emergence of this organization, determines the role of KUBUCH in the daily life of students, its place in the life of higher educational institutions and the entire system of training specialists for the national economy of the country, when the higher school overcame class prejudices, was built on broad democratic principles.
