Researched is spiritual life of society as the center of scientific and social discussion. Modern Russian society shows increased interest in spirituality. This is due to the fact, that there is opinion about crisis in this area. Many academics and public figures see the cause of the crisis in negative influence of Western liberal values. The author considers such perceptions of spiritual problems flawed because they do not contain concrete evidence. Real causes of spirituality crisis can only be discovered as result of scientific research on state of social sphere. Problems of spirituality, of course, are expressed in public moods, in functioning of social institutions, in social processes. Analysis of sociological studies by VSIOM and Rosstat statistics showed, that the crisis has specific measurable indicators. Migration moods of young people, institutions of family and marriage, education and culture demonstrate the character and dynamics of spiritual development of society. It was found, that spirituality of society is more dependent on the level of social development than on influence of Western ideology. The author concludes that investing real capital in social development, implemented through active state support, will optimize spiritual state of Russian society.

Key words: spiritual crisis, social institutions, traditional values, cultural policy, liberal ideology, spirituality.
