Personal qualities of sea profile specialist as the basis of improvement of professional training

Discussed is the problem of breeding personal qualities of seamen in the system of professional training. Analysis of scientific literature, sea and educational normative documents showed specifics of seamen’ professional activities, that are aiming at making quick decisions to provide floatability of vessel and safety of crew in extreme conditions. International practice of shipping companies, which represent the list of requirements including not only professional knowledge and skills, but also personal characteristics of seaman, determining successful professional activity at sea are considered. Conclusion is made, that new paradigm of higher professional education is oriented on realizing internal potential of personality, i.e. formation along with knowledge and skills personal qualities, ensuring success of professional activities of sea specialist.
