Having IT field of education as an example, a question of the foreign language training status in the course of professional and personal evolvement of technical university students is under consideration. It is shown in the article that a variant of federal educational standards modernized in light of occupational standards to be passed gives real opportunities for a straightforward contact between foreign language teachers and employers of future graduates. A foreign language teacher is appealed to help employers take part in lingua-educational trajectory of a given student in the legal terrain of educational and occupational standards. Together with an employer a foreign language teacher should ensure reasonable balance between requirements to a student in terms of the compliance to an educational subject made by the university and employer’s requirements to the graduate concerning professional strand of foreign language communicative competence, which in different forms must be part of professional competence defined by a given university.
