In the period of globalization and digitalization of society, the problem of the ontological connection “education – culture” is of particular importance. In this period, the modern transition to a new system of organizing higher education in Russia is often accompanied by a departure from traditional forms of transferring knowledge and values, which negatively affects the process of cultural socialization of the student. Therefore, the article recommends developing a number of effective mechanisms for managing the cultural socialization of the student. Thus, it is proposed to carry out regular monitoring of deviations caused by the information environment, using the survey method. Using the survey method, it is proposed to study the level of development of critical thinking in students. The survey also turns out to be a useful tool for testing students' abilities to show an evaluative reaction to media content, to describe the qualities of famous people appearing in various media. During the survey, respondents note the positive and negative qualities of media personalities, among which one can highlight the personal characteristics characteristic of the traditional Russian rhetorical ideal, and the characteristics inherent in the Americanized rhetorical ideal. The conducted study allowed us to draw conclusions about the need to preserve and develop the Russian rhetorical ideal of culture. For this purpose, it is recommended to more often use discussion teaching methods in modern education in order to introduce young people to both critical analysis of media content and rhetorical analysis of speech behavior patterns, taking into account the context of the modern information environment and through the use of digital technologies and information skills.
