The article considers the need to implement new educational programs important for accelerating the modernization of the IT sector of the Russian economy. According to the results of a comprehensive sociological research, the priority vectors of modernization of the IT sector in modern conditions are justified: the development of new educational programs and the accumulation of personnel potential. The sociological approach made it possible to identify the nature and focus of the interaction of various social groups, including business, the scientific community and government agencies, affecting the dynamics of modernization of the IT sector. The decisive role of the state in supporting the processes of modernization of the IT sector in the Irkutsk region has been outlined and the need to increase the efficiency of the programs and initiatives in this area has been justified.
