The article describes the changes that have occurred in the geometric and graphic training of students of engineering and design specialties of the Moscow Aviation Institute (National Research University) as part of participation in a pilot project to switch to a new system of higher education — basic and specialized higher education. Changes in the structure of the geometric-graphical ‘block’ of disciplines, the distribution of the complexity of mastering and teaching methods are described. It describes the difficulties faced by methodologists of geometric and graphic disciplines, ways to overcome them, as well as the opportunities that have opened up as part of participation in the pilot project.

Key words: descriptive geometry, engineering graphics, technical drawing, teaching methods, basic higher education
