Concept of education of Pitirim Sorokin in the context of modernity

Presented is analytical interpretation of concept of education of Pitirim Sorokin in the context of current Russian context. The heuristic potential of main provisions of this theory is revealed. The concept of P. Sorokin is considered not as set of axioms, but as epistemological tool (tool of knowledge), that broadens horizons of understanding problems, relevant to current socio-cultural context. On material of realities of modern Russian education, number of theses have been revised and supplemented in particular thesis on education as the main selective mechanism, and conclusion is made about weakening of selective function of institution of education and strengthening selective mechanism of labor market.
