Presented is the author’s examination of “Islamic state of Iraq and Levant” (ISIL) as particular terrorist organization of extremist nature, with appearance of which a new stage in development of international terrorism is connected. The author pays special attention to notion apparatus, i.e. differentiated are categories of “terrorism” and “extremism”. Described is history of formation and development of that organization from the 1990s up to present time. Taking into account, that one of aims of insurgents is building of “Worldwide caliphate”, the author analyzes basic principles of it’s realization. The article is provided with detailed insight into peculiarities of propaganda practice, used by members of ISIL, illustrating results of it’s impact. Also the author attempts to explain reasons of popularity of ISIL among youth midst.
