The article raises the problem of compliance of specialties and areas of higher education training with professions and scientific specialties. In recent years, the specialties and areas of training have been enlarged. Training in engineering specialties has been drastically reduced. It is proposed to expand the list, increasing first of all engineering specialties. The issue of the list should be solved systematically, comprehensively, together with the list of scientific specialties, as well as the register of professional activities and the list of professions. The list of specialties and areas of training should be the same for higher and secondary vocational education.

Examples are given for the USGS group “Biotechnologies and Food Technologies”.

Key words: Personnel training, List of specialties and areas of training, Classifier of professions, Educational standards, Professional standards.
