Examined is the problem of modernization of higher education system with the aim of qualitative change in training of graduates. The opinion was expressed, that the level gap in the training of specialists led to breaches in the system of technical education. In connection with that, offered is as one of directions of modernization return to training of engineers on key for economy specialties. Substantiated is, that to ensure the quality of training of graduates along with development of modern educational technologies there’s need to conduct retraining of teachers in the field of pedagogy and psychology. Presented are results of questionnaire of students of various courses of training as to the purpose of higher education. Established is, that as students grow older, the focus of goals on public interests are decreasing.
