Analyzed are place and role of students’ public associations in modern Russia. Given is definition of students’ public associations, and also presented is their detailed characteristic. Elaborated are basic directions of project activity students’ public associations, as well as shown are peculiarities of corresponding activity. Also presented is estimation of financial potential of students’ public associations. The authors consider students’ public associations as one of mechanisms of diversification of financing for small regional universities. Estimating the level of financial means raised by associations, the authors draw conclusion about possibility of use of such associations for expansion of financing of university projects, as well as of the need to expand activity of the named students’ associations.
