Presented are research materials as to the problem of training pedagogical personnel for further employment in rural areas. Emphasis in the work is on the need for high-quality training at universities of future teachers for rural schools that can competently organize educational activities, based on potential of specific conditions of village, one of which is folk cultural traditions, expressed in particular in folk arts and crafts. Results of the questionnaire survey of rural schoolteachers allowed to identify a number of key problems in development of folk arts and crafts in rural schools and in rural areas, as well as outline a number of solutions, that need to be implemented in the system of higher teachers’ education. These decisions will make it possible to prepare teachers at university, who are able to introduce rural schoolchildren to folk cultural traditions, to restore connection of generations in mastery of folk arts and crafts, preserve endangered, revive lost and increase developing types of folk applied art.
